Graduate Certificate in Teaching Asia

The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Asia will provide you with innovative ways to bring Asia into your classroom. Regardless of whether you teach primary or secondary students you will graduate from this  program having produced content and developed skills you can immediately implement in your classroom. It is taught  via videoconference and online tasks so wherever you are around the country you can participate in this program. Intensive seminars are also held in Sydney and Canberra  to give you the option of joining the delivery of this program  in person. The Graduate Certificate consists of four courses undertaken over the period of one year. They are:

As this is a full tertiary qualification, you will have access to ANU library and online teaching facilities, graduation ceremonies, as well as the EngageAsia Alumni network which gives access to study guides completed by teachers for the 'Teaching Asia' course. The course does not teach languages, but this may be possible upon request. This qualification is perfect for those looking to expand their knowledge of Asia to be thoroughly implemented in the classroom for the cross curriculum priority 'Asia and Australia's Engagement with Asia'. Subjects for the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Asia can also be taken as part of a Master Degree.

Short courses and professional development

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific has the largest array of experts on Asian Studies, and is committed to enriching the furthering of Asian Studies in schools. In order to do this, each year EngageAsia runs a number of short courses in various locations which teachers at all levels may take as part of their professional development. During these courses you will not be expected to complete tasks or conduct research, rather you  will join a series of lectures and seminars run by the ANU's leading experts in Asian studies. The short-course will you an introduction to the expectations of the cross curriculum priority 'Asia and Australia's Engagement with Asia'  and provides insights into the 'Asian Century'. Attendance at the short-course can be used later as advanced standing as part of the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Asia.
